Dr. Whited is a psychophysiologist and clinical scientist who is interested in the association between major depressive disorder and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Specifically, he is interested in understanding the reasons for this association and identifying behavioral interventions that contribute to efforts to prevent/postpone cardiovascular disease. The main candidate mechanisms of interest are health behaviors surrounding weight management, and autonomic nervous system activity. His research efforts are currently focused on understanding the influence of two different modes of depression treatment (i.e. SSRIs and behavior therapy) on CVD risk and cardiovascular reactivity.
